This annual report by the Electronic Privacy Information Center and Privacy International reviews the state of privacy in more than 75 countries around the world. It outlines legal protections for privacy, and summarizes important issues and events relating to privacy and surveillance. Each country report covers the constitutional, legal and regulatory framework protecting privacy and the surveillance of communications by law enforcement, new landmark court cases, most noteworthy advocacy work of non-governmental organizations and human rights groups, various new developments, and major news stories related to privacy.     PI & EPIC Privacy and Human Rights 2003 World Privacy Survey 11/09/2003
    Privacy International and the Electronic Privacy Information Center released Privacy and Human Rights 2003 on 5 September. The report reviews the state of privacy in 55 countries around the world. Issues covered include data protection, surveillance, anti-terrorism efforts and new technologies.

    Privacy and Human Rights 2002 01/09/2002
    The 2002 edition of Privacy and Human Rights examines the impact of government proposals after September 11, 2001 on privacy and civil liberties. The report documents many new anti-terrorism and security measures and identifies key trends including increased communications surveillance, weakening of data protection regimes, and increased profiling and identification of individuals.

    Publication of the first international privacy rankings 02/11/2006
    On Thursday 2nd November the London—based watchdog group Privacy International will publish the first ever international privacy rankings, scored by country. The rankings establish for the first time that most of the world’s most economically advanced countries have failed to protect the privacy rights of their citizens, while some of the newest and poorest democracies have become best protectors.

    A major international privacy report published today has concluded that governments across the world have substantially increased surveillance in the past year.

    PI and EPIC released the 7th Privacy and Human Rights report on 17 November 2004. It finds that governments across the world have substantially increased surveillance in the past year and warns that threats to personal privacy have reached a level that is dangerous to fundamental human rights.
